Around the World in 5 Snacks

Hi. We’re here to take you on a quick trip around the world. One of the best parts of traveling is getting to experience new and unique flavors.

We figured we’d bring a little travel adventure to your screen. Take a look at these 5 delicious snacks from all over:

1. Kinoko No Yama

Which translates into “mushroom mountain”. They’re biscuits topped with chocolate and shaped like mushrooms. These are a classic and well-known to most people in Japan and leads the “sweets that look like mushrooms” market. Which, admittedly, is a very small market.

2. Frazzles Crispy Bacon Snacks

We put these as second on our list because well… bacon. These corn-based chips look like little strips of bacon (in a kiddie kitchen sort of way) and have a sweet, salty bacon-esque flavor to them.

3. Lay’s Ketchup Chips

Even though ketchup chips sound like the most American snack food ever invented, it’s actually Canada’s signature snack. Funny enough, they don’t taste at all like ketchup, more like a delicious mix of flavors: vinegar, sweet tomatoes and crunchy, deep-fried potato starch. These chips are solid gold in the mine of snack-time. Sorry America, Canada wins this one (looking at you, Lay’s cappuccino flavored chips).

4. Chocoramo

This spongy cake covered in chocolate is the number 1 most consumed treat throughout all of Colombia. There is not a single Colombian that doesn’t like Chocoramo. It’s more than just a snack – it’s a cultural identity. It’s what Vegemite is to Australians. Macarons to the French.

5. Kinder Joy Surprise Eggs

These fun little treats have been illegal in the USA for years claiming they are a choking hazard, but they’ll be on the shelves come January 2018! They’re a chocolate egg with a collectible toy inside. You’re probably thinking “I’ve seen these things at the 7-eleven down the street”. Well, that’s because they’re either knock offs or they were amongst those smuggled into the states. Yep, there’s an actual black market for these things.
